Fact:

This is the largest of all gazelles and the world’s most threatened.

Habitat:

Grasslands, sparsely wooded savanna, sub-desert steppes.

Threats:

Habitat loss and degradation; uncontrolled hunting.

Range:

Chad; Mali; Niger.

Additional Information:

They can stand on their hind legs to eat from Acacia trees as high as 2 meters from the ground.

Conservation Action: 

The breeding herds at Al Ain Zoo are among the most important in the world. Al Ain Zoo is working with governments and conservation agencies to protect the remaining wild population.
